MOSCOW, Aug 7 (PRIME) -- The Russian government will spend in 2023 about 3.5 billion rubles on production of mobile connection base stations to facilitate the transition of the local operators to 5G, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said on Monday at a meeting with his deputies.
The telecommunications industry had traditionally used foreign equipment whose shipments were suspended, Mishustin said.
“At the June strategic session on development of the connection industry, we discussed in detail how to speed up the implementation of Russian systems. In order to help the operators move to 5G mobile networks, we will allocate additionally about 3.5 billion rubles this year to produce base stations in our country. Over the recent three years, the budget has allocated in total almost 12 billion rubles for these goals,” Mishustin said.
The decision made will ensure mobile coverage on the hardware base made in Russia that will contribute to technological independence as well, he added.
